In 2008 Vietserve won the international tender to supply and install the complete concrete cooling system for the concrete batching plants which were to pour continuously for more than two years. Due to the large volumes of cement required to build the dam walls under the RCC method, the heat buildup had to be removed to allow cement to set.
After carefully calculating aggregate mix designs, ambient and aggregate input temperatures and other variables including cement supply volumes, Vietserve was able to offer a complete solution to the requirement. Our solution involved the use of three large Northstar 90 ton/day carbon steel icemakers, set atop a large storage bin. The ice contained in this storage bin was shifted by way of Northstar's patented automated ice rake system which moved iceflake towards a screw conveyor system which lifted ice up to the weigh hoppers above the concrete batching plant. A control panel interface with the concrete batching hoppers ensured the correct mix of ice and cement was delivered, thus allowing the cement to cool to the desired temperature as it was laid.
The refrigeration system was powered by one large Vilter single screw compressor as well as a Vilter reciprocating compressor. Evapco condensers completed the major components.
