Vietserve contracted a turnkey project with Tien Nong to deliver and install a complete flake ice production system in Thanh Hoa Province. Tien Nong are well known as a block ice manufacturer, supplying up to 20,000 blocks to fishing boats per day. However the disadvantages of block ice include wastage when boats are unable to fish at short notice with ice already produced and unable to be kept. Also melting block ice in fishing boat holds can result in unstable weight distributions which can be dangerous for boats in the open sea.

The advantages of a flake ice system mean that ice can be produced at port according to demand and refrigerated storage bins allow for keeping of temporary excess. Ice flake itself, with greater surface areas will maintain lower product temperatures.

The ice flake system consisted of 02 units Northstar CS90, 02 units Vilter VSS1051, storage bins with ice rake system.

Initial results are very positive and Tien Nong is looking to add a further ice flake system in the near future.
